Guys at 9to5mac's reported the news that it's not completely safe to use SmartCover on iPad 2 running iOS 5. Even if it is password protected, due to a bug you can unlock your device, at best situation you enter the main menu, where you cannot run apps, but you can see all installed and running applications, or even you can remove them. Moreover, you can search for anything in spotlight.
If you lock your device just when you are reading e-mail, message or viewing your calendar, hackers can search among your personal data as well.
Taking advantage of this vulnerability you can unlock your password-protected device using the following method:
Hold on the 'Power' button until the 'Power off' screen becomes active, then put on the SmartCover and then remove the cover and tap Cancel.
Probably an official patch will be coming soon from Apple with the next update, but until then it is advisable to disable SmartCover unlock under the general tab in the settings of your device.
